I don't own a dog, but have been fortunate to know hikers who bring their canine companions with them when we walk into the wilderness.  I am always impressed by the unabashed joy and excitement expressed by these animals.  They live for the moment.  They are not burdened by goals or pace or athletic ego.  They are alert, using all of their senses to take in and make the most of the day and their surroundings.  We could all learn a lot from these extraordinary creatures!
